Copywriting: A Portfolio Example

A copywriting portfolio works well when it shows that you can adapt the tone, structure, and purpose of the same type of copy to different contexts.

You can publish it wherever you want, but if you want to convey a stronger sense of authority, you should create your own personal blog.

For example, you could build your portfolio like this:

1. Homepage / Introduction

A brief introduction: who you are, what kind of copywriting you do, and what you can offer.

Example:

"I write copy that helps brands and professionals communicate in a distinctive and compelling way."

2. Brand Copywriting

A fictional or real project for a brand: tagline, headline, "About Us" page, and description of the tone of voice.

Example: a small natural cosmetics brand ➡️ naming for a product line, slogan, homepage headline, and product description.

3. Social Media Copy

A mini-campaign consisting of 3-5 posts for Instagram, LinkedIn, or TikTok.

You can show how the copy changes depending on the platform.

Example: launch of a new coffee shop ➡️ teaser post, opening announcement, promotion, and brand storytelling.

4. Advertising

Short ads that clearly demonstrate your ability to communicate effectively with limited space (a very important skill in business).

Example: a gym looking to increase memberships ➡️ 3 Meta Ads variations with a headline, primary text, and CTA.

5. Email Marketing

A short sequence: welcome email, promotional email, and follow-up.

Example: clothing e-commerce store ➡️ welcome email + new collection launch + abandoned cart recovery.

6. Website / Landing Page

This can be one of the most important pieces in your portfolio.

Create a complete page with a hero section, benefits, objection handling, and a CTA.

It could even be a page on your own blog where you promote your copywriting services and showcase this portfolio.

Example: landing page for an online English-learning service ➡️ headline, subheadline, landing page sections, and call to action.

7. Product Pages / E-Commerce

Useful for showcasing more sales-oriented copy.

Example: a sustainable clothing brand launching a new collection ➡️ product name, short description, full product description, key benefits, and CTA.

A Possible Beginner Portfolio

You don't necessarily need real clients.

You could create 5 spec projects, meaning realistic fictional projects.

For each one, you can present:

Brief ➡️ Objective ➡️ Target audience ➡️ Strategic approach ➡️ Final copy

This way, a recruiter or potential client can see that, in addition to writing well, you also know how to think strategically as a copywriter.

Let's look at an example featuring a fictional company:

LUME

"Essential skincare, without impossible promises.

The brief: LUME is an American minimalist skincare brand aimed primarily at women and men between the ages of 25 and 40. The market is crowded with products featuring complex formulas, ten-step routines, and promises of radical transformations. LUME wants to take a different position: fewer products, clearly explained, designed to be used consistently.

Objective: Build a distinctive verbal identity and communicate simplicity without sounding cold or impersonal.

Target audience: People ages 25-40 who care about skincare but are tired of trends, technical jargon, and overly complicated routines.

Tone of voice: Direct, reassuring, knowledgeable, essential.

Concept: "Your skin doesn’t need more promises."

The concept comes from an observation: in the beauty industry, consumers are constantly exposed to new ingredients, products, and "miraculous" results.

Instead of making yet another promise, LUME focuses on making skincare simpler and easier to understand.

Homepage

Headline: "Your skin doesn't need more promises. Just what it actually needs."

Subheadline: "Essential formulas, carefully selected ingredients, and a routine you can actually stick to."

CTA: Discover the routine.

Brand section: "Fewer products and more awareness. We don't believe in endless routines. We believe in knowing what you put on your skin, choosing what you need, and using it consistently. That's why every LUME product is created with a specific purpose. No unnecessary steps. No ingredients added just because they're trendy. Just skincare designed to fit into your day, not complicate it."

Product - "DAILY 01," Daily Face Cream.

"The cream you don’'t have to remind yourself to use. Lightweight texture, everyday hydration, and a formula designed to become the simplest step in your routine. Morning. Evening. Done."

Final CTA: Discover DAILY 01

Why I Made These Choices

I avoided the aspirational language typically used in the beauty industry - "perfect skin," "transformation," "revolutionary" - to build the brand's positioning through contrast.

Short sentences and everyday language make the brand approachable, while the repeated emphasis on simplicity and practicality reinforces its core promise: LUME wants to sell you a routine that's easier to maintain.
